Viña Andrico wines are made by Head Winemaker Pablo Martorell with the careful consultation of Mariana Onofri, Wine Director. Our consulting Winemaker is Santiago Achaval. Our entire team is in regular communication throughout the growing season and especially during the harvest/fermentation period.
Francisco comes from a family of agronomists and winemakers. Since 1994 he has worked at various wineries in Mendoza, Argentina and Napa Valley, California. His devotion to the soil runs deep in his roots. In 2007, Francisco personally oversaw the clearing and planting of our vineyard. Today, he manages the implementation of our farming and irrigation plans to achieve optimum results in our vineyard.
Pablo was born and raised in Tunuyan, a few miles from Viña Andrico. He comes from a long line of winemakers in his family and has trained at wineries in Argentina, France and California. Having participated in both old and new world techniques, Pablo captures the best of both worlds in his winemaking. With only minimal intrusion into the winemaking process, Pablo seeks to bring out the natural flavors, balance and structure in our wine.
Mariana Onofri oversees the implementation of our customized winemaking plans. She provides impeccable attention to detail in all aspects of production from vineyard to bottle. This includes coordination of our final blending to regular barrel tastings. Mariana’s coordination with Pablo leads to the important decision making on matters such as the duration of barrel aging and bottling. Mariana has worked at Chateau La Violette in Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, and was a sommelier at La Bourgogne in Punta Del Este, Uruguay.
Walter Carrizo began working at his Uco Valley based, family winery since he was a teenager. Now, nearly two decades later, he brings a wealth of experience in coordinating our winemaking activities. He's been with us since 2010 and previously trained in Napa Valley. Walter's wife Andrea is also a winemaker so they certainly have lots to discuss at the dinner table.
After three decades of enjoying wines from around the world, we chose Mendoza’s Uco Valley to create outstanding wines in very small quantities. By respecting the natural environment and providing the highest quality farming and vinification techniques, we have accomplished our goal of creating exceptional wines that capture the true essence of the grapes.
